Opening Statements

Artemis Malekpour · Amy Pardieck

Artemis MalekpourAmy Pardieck

In this workshop, attorney participants will do their opening statements. Artemis and Amy will work with you on how to engage jurors in the story about your case, how to deliver a juror-friendly story in all three channels, visual, auditory and kinestic, and how to use full-body communication. Before arriving in Las Vegas, we’ll work together on a draft of an opening for an upcoming trial so what to say is already prepared. While drafting your opening, we’ll work on the sequence of topics, identifying the main character and minor characters, and context for the right way compared to the wrong way. Our workshop time will focus on how to:

  • have fun and trust your jurors,
  • build on rapport that starts in jury selection,
  • keep the jurors’ attention,
  • help jurors hear, see and feel your story,
  • use movement to tell your story,
  • begin your opening with a hook,
  • end your opening with a conclusion.
