Slicing and Dicing Defense Arguments and Proving 90% of Your Case in Depositions

Shayla Reed

Shayla Reed

In this breakout session, you will learn and practice “next level” deposition skills to take better depositions in civil personal injury cases, secure key admissions, destroy defense arguments to increase your chances of securing better settlement offers early in all your cases.

You will learn:

  • how to sequence questions to secure key admissions concerning liability and damages;
  • how to use depositions to prove 90% of your case to bolster credibility with the jury and lay the groundwork for summary judgment motions to reduce issues for trial;
  • how to destroy frivolous defenses;
  • how to use a Rule 30(b)(6) to lock-in key admissions and limit the opinions of defense expert witnesses; and
  • how to use a Rule 30(b)(6) deposition to prove 90% of your case to bolster credibility with the jury and lay the groundwork for summary judgment motions to reduce issues for trial;
  • how to destroy frivolous defenses;
  • how to use a Rule 30(b)(6) to lock-in key facts and limit the opinions of defense expert witnesses; and
  • multiple strategies for dealing with obstructive tactics by defense counsel during your depositions (that can be used in all depositions including basic discovery depositions).

You will meet with Shayla Reed on a short Zoom call prior to the seminar to prepare for the session so you practice these techniques on the types of cases you encounter the most.

You will also receive materials, including an outline of written questions to take home with you, to incorporate into your deposition outlines, along with other deposition resources, to help with deposition preparation and maximize your chances of taking a successful deposition.

The goal of this workshop is to boost your confidence and arm you with the structure, and an outline of questions, to take killer depositions that prove your case, secure higher settlement offers earlier in your cases and tell your client’s most persuasive story at trial.
